Dr. Charles E. Lee, age 82, of Cumming, GA died
Monday, June 29 2009. He was born in Terrell County Georgia
on March 17, 1927, son of the late Ed and Lorena Lee of
Dawson GA. Immediately after his high school graduation in
1945, he left Dawson to join the U.S. Navy where he served
in the Pacific through 1946. After leaving the Navy he
attended the University of Georgia where he was captain of
the varsity boxing team for three years (1947-1949). In 1951
he graduated from the UGA School of Veterinary Medicine and
returned to Dawson to establish his Veterinary practice. In
1987 Dr. Lee sold his practice in Dawson and moved to
Cumming to be close to his children and grandchildren. He
continued his practice at the Orr Animal Hospital in Cumming
until his retirement in 1999.
Dr. Lee was an active member of his church and community.
While in Terrell County he was a Deacon and Sunday School
Teacher at the First Baptist Church of Dawson as well as an
active member of the Jaycees and Rotary International. While
in Cumming he was an active member of the First Redeemer
Church and he served in various leadership positions in the
Gideon Camp in both Terrell and Forsyth Counties. Dr. Lee
was also an avid golfer and former club champion at The
Dawson Country Club.
Dr. Lee is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jane Lee of
Cumming; a daughter, Pam Gravitt of Cumming; a son and
daughter-in-law, Chuck and Coyann Lee of Clemson, SC; a son
and daughter-in-law, Edward and Dawn Lee of Birmingham AL
and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother,
John B. Lee of Doraville GA and preceded in death by his
Father and Mother, Ed and Lorena Lee and two sisters, Anola
Davis and Faye Watford.
Funeral services will be held Thursday July 2nd at 11:00
a.m. at the First Redeemer Church in Cumming, GA with Rev.
Mike Schmid officiating. The family will receive friends at
Ingram Funeral Home Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideons
International, There's Hope at First Redeemer Church or the
American Heart Association.
