Mrs. Ellen McGehee Dougherty, age 77, of Decatur, Georgia passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2008. She was a graduate of Newberry High School, Newberry, Florida, and Berry College, Rome, Georgia.  She received her Masters in Theology from Mercer University, Macon, Georgia.  She was a member of Parkwood Hills Baptist Church, Decatur, Georgia.  She retired after 35 years of service from Georgia State Health Department.  She was dedicated to missions work in her church and the Atlanta Baptist Association.  She supported the Franklin Graham, Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry and the inner city Atlanta Stewart Center work.  She made many trips to Romania to assist in small local churches.  In 1984 she was honored as the Atlanta Business Woman of the Year by the Atlanta Business Women's Association.  She was the recipient of the 1996 Berry College Alumni Center Distinguished Service Awards. She is survived by sons and their wives, Allen & Terry Dougherty, Snellville, Georgia, Robert & Kelly Dougherty, Cumming, Georgia, Roger & Carolyn Dougherty, Sugar Hill, Georgia; her daughter and husband, Robert & Denise Elderkin, Melbourne, Florida; eight grandchildren, Eric, Amy, Taylor, Chase, Kayla, Conner, Karis, R.D.; two great grandchildren, Gabrielle and Jordan; her brothers, Eugene McGehee, High Springs, Florida, Donald McGehee, Newberry, Florida, Clarence Holt, Newberry, Florida; her sisters, Elaine Mitchell, Pensacola, Florida, Linda Boggs, Westminster, South Carolina, Kathleen Martin, Newberry, Florida, Wilma Holt, Newberry, Florida, Connie Hines, High Springs, Florida.  She was preceded by her parents, Pelham and Esther McGehee; stepmother, Ruth McGehee; brothers, Carroll McGehee and Richard Holt. Funeral services for Mrs. Dougherty will be held on Saturday, January 19th, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 14105 NW 298th Street, High Springs, Florida, at 2:00 p.m.  Visitation will be one hour before the service. A memorial service for Mrs. Dougherty will be held on Saturday, January 26th, 2:00p.m. at Parkwood Hills Baptist Church, 4741 Covington Hwy., Decatur, Georgia.
