Fire Chief Dorris
A native of South Florida retired Miami Beach Fire Chief Dorris passed away at the age of 68 on Jan. 31 in Cumming, GA of Alzheimer's Disease. Fire Chief for 8 years (1985 -1994); he spent 31 years in fire service, after beginning his career as a West Miami Policeman/Fireman before joining the City of Miami Beach Fire Department where he spent 28 years working his way up through the ranks. Imbued with a sense of responsibility as a son, husband, father, friend and dedicated public servant, he touched many lives. He led with the conviction that it is people who matter, holding himself and his department to the highest standards. With great pride, we remember his many selfless acts, helpful hands, bravery and leadership. Born in West Miami, Mr. Dorris attended Southwest High School and the University of Florida. He lived in Kendall until 2007, when he moved to Georgia to be closer to his daughters and grandchildren.

He is survived by wife of 46 years, Gail Dorris, two daughters, Joyce Dorris and Lisa Roberts, son-in-law John Roberts, four grandchildren, Amanda, Blake, Shelby Roberts and Laura Grace Goldberg, his twin brother, Dr. George Dorris and wife Paula, Uncle Reverend Glenn Dorris and wife, Frances and several extended family members.

His family will greet guests prior to the memorial service to be held at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming on Friday, February 5th at 11:00 am followed by interment at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens.
