Mr. William R. Mathis, Jr., age 82 of Cumming and
life long resident, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008. Mr.
Mathis was a deacon and member of Brookwood Baptist Church.
He was a veteran of the Army serving in World War II. He was
a co-owner of Bagwell and Mathis Tire and had retired after
50 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents
Ratio and Faustine Mathis.
Survivors include his wife Mary Stripland Mathis of Cumming;
sons and daughters-in-law Terry and Kathy Mathis and Kris
and Melody Mathis all of Cumming; daughter and son-in-law
Rebecca and Quinn Martin of Cumming; grandchildren Deana
Fagan, Holly Mullinax, Kelly Mathis, Heidi Roper, Julie
Gayle and Tyler Mathis; step grandchildren Ross Martin and
Reid Martin; great grandchildren Will and Caleb Fagan and
Bailey Roper; and a number of other relatives also survive.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at
1:00 pm at Brookwood Baptist Church with Rev. Don Westray
and Rev. Gerrell Richards officiating. Interment will follow
in Brookwood Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will
receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home on Monday from 6:00
pm until 9:00 pm and Tuesday from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm. In
lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Brookwood
Baptist Church Building Fund, 2775 Brookwood Road, Cumming,
Georgia 30041.
